Adaptive Bodybuilding Category

Adaptive Bodybuilding is a celebration of strength, resilience, and determination, providing a platform for athletes who overcome enduring physical challenges to showcase their dedication to fitness. This category is designed to honor athletes with lasting physical disabilities or conditions that significantly impact their mobility, strength, or physical function, ensuring an inclusive yet competitive environment.

There are two types of Adaptive Bodybuilding classes—Neurological and Non-Neurological. This distinction ensures fair judging by grouping athletes based on how their conditions impact muscle control, coordination, and development.

  • Neurological Adaptive includes athletes with conditions affecting the nervous system, such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, or spinal cord injuries with neurological impairments. These conditions may impact muscle function, coordination, and symmetry.
  • Non-Neurological Adaptive includes athletes with structural or limb-related impairments, such as amputations, joint disorders, congenital limb differences, or spinal injuries without neurological impairment. These conditions affect mobility but do not directly impact muscle control or function.

By distinguishing between these categories, competitors are judged fairly against others with similar functional abilities, ensuring a level playing field while celebrating their unique strengths and achievements.
