About this category
Men and women in the Bodybuilding category will be judged through a series of poses that will allow the judges to evaluate not only individual body parts, but also the “whole package.”
Men wear a bodybuilding posing suit; women wear a two-piece bodybuilding suit with or without embellishments.
Athletes are judged in two rounds. Please see segments below for details.

Men and women in the Bodybuilding category will be judged through a series of poses that will allow the judges to evaluate not only individual body parts, but also the “whole package.”
Round 1 - Symmetry
Symmetry encompasses overall balance and conditioning from top to bottom and side poses.
See posing for this round in the ‘Mandatory Poses’ tab below.
Round 2 - Muscularity & Conditioning
Athletes will be judged on the size of muscles and conditioning/definition by executing a series of 9 mandatory poses.
Competitors must perform all mandatory poses in a timely manner.
Judges are looking at the complete package from all parts of the physique not just one body part at a time.
See posing for this round in the ‘Mandatory Poses’ tab below.
-
Judges will score each round and give competitors a final placement for that round before moving on to the next round.
For example, if there are 8 people in the class the judging panel will place athletes 1st thru 8th in each round. When judging is complete both scores (2) will be added together to come up with the final placement for each competitor in that class.

After this round is completed, competitors will exit the stage (stage right) and return one by one to perform a 45-second (or shorter) posing routine. See graphic below.
✔️ The routine starts at the center of the stage, but athletes are welcome to utilise the entire stage during their performance.
✔️ Props and costumes are permitted but not required.
✔️ Music choice is up to the competitor. This needs to be in MP3 format. The first 45 seconds will be played, but we advise you leave your file 10 seconds or so longer than this so that we can fade it out for you.
Any athlete who has not submitted music by the deadline will pose to music selected by the WNBF AUSTRALIA. (Deadline to be announced)
❌ Posing music MUST NOT contain any profanity, sexually explicit, or violent lyrics or racially offensive terminology. Such tracks will not be played.
OVERALL
Please note that as it is typical in the Bodybuilding category, competitors battling for the Overall title may be asked by the Head judge to ‘Pose Down’.

First Timer:
Is this your first season competing, or are you transitioning to a more muscular category for the first time? If so, you qualify as a First-Timer!
First-Timers are either newcomers to competitive bodybuilding or athletes with some experience entering a new category for the first time. First-Timers can also join the Novice class and crossover to the Open class in a different category (e.g., First-Timer Bodybuilding- Open Men’s Physique ).Novice:
Novice competitors are either first time competitors, someone who has competed and has not placed top three in an Open class (in the WNBF or in any other natural organisation)
If you win a Novice class, you are then required to compete in an Open class.
The overall Novice winner will be invited into the Open class of the same category in the same event.
Open:
(This is a Pro Card winning class 🏆)
This class is split into 2, A and B, based on the athlete's height.
Masters
(This is a Pro Card winning class 🏆)
Athletes over the age of 40 are eligible for the Bodybuilding Masters class.
-
Only the top 3 athletes in each class will be awarded. However, only the winner (1st place) of a class will get to compete for the overall title and a Pro Card.
Note:
✔️ Only Open class competitors and Masters are eligible for Pro Cards.
✔️ Depending on the total number of competitors, classes may be arranged differently than stipulated. This also means less (or more) Pro Cards can be awarded.
✔️ Pro Card winners will be officially recognised by the WNBF and its other international affiliates once urine tests come back negative.
